The 2018 Southern Modified Racing Series schedule includes visits to six tracks, all in the State of North Carolina. Caraway Speedway, Concord Speedway, Hickory Motor Speedway and Orange County Speedway return from 2017. After a year absence, Tri-County Motor Speedway returns to the series. The Hudson, NC racetrack was part of SMRS in its inaugural season in 2016. The new addition to the tour is Eastern North Carolina’s Carteret County Speedway.
“We have our core tracks returning; we also added Tri-County back from the first year and the race there was absolutely awesome,” said Renee Hackett, Series Director for SMRS. “There is also the new addition of Carteret County Speedway, a great venue. I’ve got quite a lot of feedback from the teams and they are very excited with the new schedule.”
The 2018 season and a busy month of March gets going at Caraway Speedway on Sunday, March 11 with the 99-lap season opener. The weekend will also include a test day for teams on Saturday.
“We are very excited for opening day on Sunday, March 11. To help teams break-in their equipment for the season, we are also going to have a test and tune day on Saturday, March. This should give everyone some extra time to prepare for Sunday.”
From there SMRS moves to Concord Speedway for the first time in 2018 with the longest race of the season, 125 laps on Saturday, March 24. SMRS Mods join the Super Late Models of the Pro All Stars Series at Hickory Motor Speedway during the Easter Bunny 150 on Saturday, March 31. The Modifieds will compete in a 75-lap feature. The second event at Caraway is on the schedule for Saturday, April 14, with Twin 50s on that day.
The spring portion of the 2018 season concludes on Friday, May 25 with SMRS running 75 laps at Concord Speedway, once again a combo show with the PASS Super Late Models during the Old Glory Night at the famed tri-oval.
Caraway will host a mid-summer bout on Saturday, July 7 with a 71-lap feature. The half-mile will also be the site of the beginning of the fall portion the SMRS schedule, with Twin 53’s on Saturday, August 25. Carteret County Speedway will host SMRS for the first time in history, during Labor Day Weekend, on Sunday, September 3. SMRS will head to Caraway Speedway one last time in 2018, on Saturday, September 8 for a 75-lap event.
The season concludes with three more 75-lap events at Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 22, Tri-County Motor Speedway Saturday, October 6, and Orange County Speedway on Saturday, October 20.
