Burns confident ahead of 2017 Thanksgiving Classic

(Lucama, NC) – Swansboro native Chris Burns recently competed in the Super Late Model event held at Carteret County Speedway in September where he came up just one spot short of a victory. At this year’s Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park, Burns hope to change that. He will once again pilot the #55 Super Late Model owned by David Dale.

While Burns does not run on a regular basis at SNMP, he has had good runs there in the past which includes winning the Vintage Nationals that was held at the track in 2012. He has also competed in the track’s Limited Late Model and Late Model Stock divisions in the past.

In 2017 Burns competed full-time at Carteret County Speedway where he picked up one victory along with multiple top 5 finishes. He would come home 2nd in the points standings.

Sunday, November 26th will be Burns’ second time driving a Super Late Model in his career. We asked burns about his expectations going into the event. “We’ve got a good car that’s proven to be capable of running up front, so I plan on going with intentions of battling for a win.” The Super Late Model division will be running a 125 lap feature along with Late Model Stocks in action running 200 laps.

A “roulette style” payout will be implemented for the Super Late Model division this year at The Classic. Track owner Michael Diaz came up with the idea to boost the interest and excitement of the racers, so far it has received great feedback.  “We had such great feedback from the Late Model racers and so many questions from Super Late Model and Limited drivers that we thought it’d be great to include all of them,” track owner Michael Diaz said. “It’s a great concept that the drivers and teams are excited about and we’re excited about the excitement it’s bringing to the Thanksgiving Classic.”

For the Super Late Model feature, drivers can race for $10,000-to-win if they pay a $500 entry fee or $4,000-to-win if they pay a $125 entry fee.
