(Lucama, NC) The Bandolero division took to the 4/10 mile oval of Southern National Motorsports Park for the 5th time in 2017. Parker Frazier, from New Hill, NC, is in his 3rd year of Bandolero competition. Frazier showed great speed in practice and would go on to the claim the pole ahead of the 15 Lap feature. Matthew Gurganus qualified 2nd with Josh Speas clocking in at 3rd.
The race got off to a rocky start when a huge crash started behind the leaders as they headed into turn 1 on the first lap. This crash brought out the Red Flag as Stanley Hayes and Kaleb Bradley both made hard contact with the outside wall. Hayes was taken away from the wreck on a stretcher and put into the Ambulance. Camryn Rice was also involved but spun without sustaining much damage and was able to continue.
As the Race got back underway Frazier would continue to lead until lap 14 when 3 cars were involved in a wreck in turn 4 coming to the white flag. The cars involved included Ethan Johnson, Matthew Gurganus, and Josh Speas.
From there it was a shootout to the finish. Frazier would continue to lead, but not without a late race challenge from Johnson who was able to clear Rice on the restart. Johnson closed the gap by a few car lengths but was unable to catch the #17 of Frazier. Frazier lead all 15 laps and grabbed the victory.
We talked to Parker after the win and asked him what he has worked on so far this year to improve. “The biggest thing I had to work on this year is studying the line of the track and how to compete for position with other drivers”
This was Frazier’s first win of the year and he became third different driver to win at SNMP this season.
